Annemarie Zimmer Aldrich
Annemarie Zimmer Aldrich is the narrator and main character. She is the wife of Roger and the mother of Eva. She is the daughter of Anton and Ursula (Mutti). Annemarie travels back home with her daughter to live with her mother and father after she loses her job and her husband leaves her for another woman. Annemarie is suffering a crisis that began when she lost her beloved horse, Harry, in a jumping accident during a competition. Annemarie was paralyzed by the accident, but regained all of her motion after physical therapy and multiple surgeries. She married Roger and moved away from her parents’ farm to keep from being pressured to ride again.
