Summary
In Chapter 19, the police first ask Annemarie about her relationship with Dan. When they ask about her relationship with Ian and tell her they have her phone records, she decides to call a lawyer. She chooses Norma Blackley from an ad in the phone book. After Norma hears Annemarie’s story, Norma tells her all she is guilty of is trying to keep a horse she loved. Back with the police, Norma advises Annemarie not to answer when they ask her why Hurrah was a solid color. Annemarie, however, tells the police that she dyed the horse.
An hour later, the police let Annemarie go. She drives to the stable where she finds that Hurrah’s stall is empty. Jean-Claude tells Annemarie that Mutti argued with the men who took him, but they had a warrant. Annemarie collapses onto the floorboards and cries...
