Summary
In Chapter 8, in a dream, Su Yi remembered a visit to Mount Mary Church in Bombay during World War II. Even though she was not Catholic, she lit candles for Singapore. She wondered what was happening at Tyersall Park, if the house had been damaged in the bombing or if it had been looted. Suddenly James was standing in front of her asking if she wanted to confess. Inside the confessional booth, Su Yi began to confess to James but was woken from her dream by a man asking if she could hear him.
The doctor, Professor Oon, allowed Felicity in to see her mother. Su Yi asked for water and Felicity worried if the jug of water was from the tap or if it was filtered. She also thought she needed something other than a plastic cup, but Su Yi said...
