Andi Alpers
Andi is a seventeen-year-old teenager living in New York. Andi's father is a Nobel Prize winning scientist, therefore Andi goes to private school and lives a more affluent life. However, Andi is struggling with a deep depression ever since the death of her brother, Truman, two years before the novel begins. In fact, Andi is taking antidepressants and suffers from thoughts of suicide. The only thing that keeps Andi going is her passion for music and the guilt that makes her feel responsible for her mother's depression.
Andi travels to Paris to spend the winter break with her estranged father and to work on her outline for a senior thesis.
