Part 1, Hell: Chapters 38-47 Summary

Andi continues to read Alex's diary. Alex's wrote of how desperate she was for food and money that she stole a man's money purse from a restaurant table. It turned out the purse belonged to the Duc d' Orleans. Orleans took Alex back to his rooms and transformed her into a boy.

Andi finally reaches the head of the line to go into the catacombs. Andi reads all the signs along the way, learning more about the Revolution. At a fork, Andi gets separated from the rest of the tour and goes down a dark tunnel in which she believes she can hear the voices of the dead and can see what kind of people they were in life. Andi is rattled. A security guard guides Andi out of the tunnel and back into the proper tunnel...
