Summary

In Chapter 50, Mr. Guston, the projectionist, lets Jamie use the phone to talk to workers in the main theater. There are three black boys in the theater, which caused the riot. The family uses a stairway to reach the main theater. Gillette greets the three young blacks, and they return the greeting. Jamie says he has a plan to get them out of the theater safely, but warns that it will not work next time.

In Chapter 51, the family arrives safely home and talk about the events. After Parnell goes back to the apartment he shares with Randy, everyone goes to bed except Sunny and Gillette. They are back on familiar terms. At one point, Gillette defends his mother and points out that Annabelle is the only mother Sunny has. She counters, but her heart is not in the argument.
