Carolina del Norte
The Cruz family lived and worked in Carolina del Norte (North Carolina) when they got to the United States. There Mr. Cruz, a farmer, had to do construction work. Too many Mexican workers came to Carolina del Norte, however, and as such, the work dried out. This is the reason the Cruz family moved to Vermont. They still have ties to Carolina del Norte because that is the last place Mrs. Cruz saw the family, and that is where they expect her to return. Ultimately, she is dropped off at a bus stop near the family’s home, and Mari goes there to pick her up.
