Summary
Tyler is approaching his twelfth birthday, and on the day before his birthday, people from all the towns in Vermont have meetings to discuss and vote on important issues. The students have an assignment to attend their town’s meeting. Grandma and her church group bake for the event, and when a man complains about the separation of church and state, Grandma does not put the church’s name anywhere, but she puts a church with an American flag on it. Tyler is upset because he wants to go on a trip to Washington with his 4-H club, but the family cannot afford it. Mr. Bicknell asks Tyler, at the last minute, to carry the flag at the meeting. Beforehand, Tyler goes to the bathroom and finds $800 in cash. He knows he should return it, but he wants to use it...
