George Ritchie
George is a psychiatrist having experienced an unusual event in his life. As a young recruit in the military, George contracts double lobar pneumonia and is suffering with a high fever when he collapses. A short time later, he's officially declared dead. About nine minutes later, at the insistence of a ward boy who put himself in danger of reprimand, George is revived by a shot of adrenaline. Considering the medical technology of the day, that in itself is interesting, but what happens to George during those moments and how it impacts the rest of his life is amazing. George finds himself in an out-of-body experience, first rushing away in an effort to reach Richmond where he's slated to begin medical school. When he realizes that he is somehow not connected with his physical body, he returns to the hospital only to realize that he can't locate...
