Summary

Chapter 9 begins about eight years after Rebecca Shaw’s disappearance. Martin Fowler’s sister starts to worry about Martin’s association with Ray and Flint, as she thinks Ray and Flint may be potentially dangerous people. Su Cooper begins working full-time for the BBC. One day, Ray and Flint rob and old woman in her home. Cathy takes Mr. Wilson’s dog for a walk, and Mr. Wilson comes with her. He speaks about his late wife. The police begin investigating the burglary, and they suspect Ray and Flint, although a search of their trailer yields nothing. Susanna’s shop continues to perform poorly. James and Rohan finish university and return to the town while trying to decide what to do next. Sophie, despite failing university, is given a job offer to do media work for a company.
