Summary
Chapter 7 begins about six years after Rebecca Shaw’s disappearance. News reports state that a 13-year-old girl has been abducted from another town, but her body is found and a suspect is arrested, and there seems to be no connection to Rebecca’s case. Tony, the owner of the local pub the Gladstone, ponders the idea of expanding his menu offerings. Richard Clark comes to town to see his mother and Cathy Harris. Cathy continues to walk Mr. Wilson’s dog Nelson for him. Cathy confesses to Richard that she once briefly dated Gordon Jackson. The protesters continue to protest the quarry, and Rebecca Shaw’s mother is seen in town with a man who is not Rebecca Shaw’s father. A man thought to be a widower moves to town.
James returns home after his first year of university. His parents are divorcing...
