Chapter Nine, Part 2 Summary

In the hospital, Sara is drugged into numbness then chastised for her lack of motivation. The treatment becomes so bad that Sara fears mealtime because the food is shoved painfully down her throat. When Dr. Reynolds checks in on her he treats her as if she is being a stubborn case, meanwhile she is desperately trying to express the pain and discomfort she endures. Without knowing what is ahead and physically incapable of protest, Sara goes to her first shock therapy session quietly. She is strapped in and the pain surges through her body. She can smell her own flesh burning but her mouth is too numb to even scream so she cries out in her head.
