Chapter Three, Part 30-31 Summary
Harry knows that he planned to pick out a new television for his mother today but can't bring himself to go through with the shopping without getting high first. At the television department of Macy's, Harry speaks confidently and firmly with the salesperson, picks a television and pays for it cash, in full.
Back at home, Harry thinks about his trip to Macy's and instead of seeing himself as the cool collected customer, he is sweating and stammering as the salesman quick talks him into buying more than he needs. He brushes that image out of his mind with a hit of heroin.
The next day Harry takes a hit of heroin in order to get the motivation to visit his mother. Marion gives him approval on his appearance as he dresses in new slacks and sports...
