Chapters 7-8 Summary
Kiriel confesses to himself that he likes Shaun's little brother, Jason, even though they frequently are at odds with each other. Kiriel compares Jason to the Fallen because it was in the young boy's nature to be curious, to experiment with things, to "bend [a thing] until it broke." For this reason, Jason was always disliked and rejected by his teachers and babysitters. As he eats Shaun's favorite breakfast of Froot Loops, Kiriel says that he feels a kinship with the Jasons of the world. He experiences the sheer joy of eating and tasting things as humans do, savoring with his lips the sweet and tasty milk on his soggy cereal.
