The Difficulties of Life for a Felon
Hoover uses Kenna, her heroine, to describe the challenges life holds for a person who has spent time behind bars. Kenna first has suffered the trauma of having her baby taken away from her because she gave birth while in prison. In fact, Kenna’s rights to her baby were terminated because she gave birth while she was in prison. She will have to fight to get her daughter back. Next, she has difficulty finding a job because she has a record. Kenna feels people prejudge her without giving her a chance when they discover she has been in jail.
