Small Wooden Cross
This wooden cross is a symbol of prejudice. Kenna pulls up this cross when she returns from jail. She knows Scotty’s mother put it there, but also knew Scotty hated roadside memorials. After Kenna is allowed to be part of her daughter’s life, Kenna and Diem together put the cross back. Kenna tells Diem that even though Scotty would have hated the memorial, they are replacing it because it is important to Grace.
Wine
The wine is a symbol of regret and strength. When Kenna is in Ledger’s bar the first time, she asks him for a glass of wine. She does not intend to drink the wine because she remembers what happened the last time she drank wine. She wants to prove to herself that she is strong by being able to walk away from it without drinking it.
