Point of View
This novel is told from the point of view of two different first-person narrators. Kenna is the first first-person narrator introduced in the novel. In her opening chapter, she narrates: “Scotty would hate it. I bet his mother put it there” (1). Kenna refers to herself as “I” indicating that she is speaking for herself and will be sharing her own thoughts and emotions. Ledger also speaks from the first-person point of view: “I’m pulling my truck into the alley behind the bar when I notice the nail polish still on the fingernails of my right hand” (7). These first-person narrations allow the reader insight into each of these main characters’ opinions and thoughts about the other.
