While “Remember” does not mention or hint at a specific physical setting or world, throughout the body of the poem, Rossetti is preoccupied with the response to her death in the relatively near feature. This interest in her own projected decease is evident from the first lines of the poem – “Remember me when I am gone away, / Gone far away into the silent land” (1-2). By setting her poem in the near future, Rossetti gives evidence to her own powerful foresight, which is supported by the definitive statements of “When” applied to the gradual, projected process of forgetting she foretells in her loved ones throughout “Remember” (3, 5).
