Justin Campbell
Justin is the son of Laura and Eric Campbell who disappears when he is 11 years old, four years prior to the start of this story. He is loved and missed by all. His younger brother, Griffin, looks up to him with admiration and wants to be like him. He is found when he is 16 years old. He returns a different person than the boy his family remembers.
Neither the family nor the reader truly learns what has happened to Justin during his captivity, but many allusions are made to paint the picture of his life of agony.
