Chapters 51 through 64, Summary

Margo, D'Agosta, Pendergast, and Mephisto are all in the FBI basement as Pendergast provides equipment for a trip into the tunnels. Margo is angry when she discovers that they don't plan for her to accompany them. She sits on the floor as they leave, angry that they're leaving without her and angrier that she can't simply let them go while she heads home to takeout and a good book.

Snow is in the office when a Navy SEAL team commander appears, demanding the services of a police diver. Snow explains that they're all out on a call and is commanded to accompany the team. He says he believes he can lead them to their destination and says the shortest route is through the raw sewage ponds.

Margo remains sitting on the floor of the FBI supply room for some time before...
