Chapters 28 through 39 Summary
Margo accompanies D'Agosta to the site of another warehouse where Greg had been working, this one having burned sometime around the time of his death. Margo agrees to map the identifiable items in an effort to figure out what kind of work Greg was doing. She finds a DNA sequencer and several aquariums, then finds the remains of a plant that the Mbwun craved, known as the "Mbwun plant." Margo notes that the plant is either the result of a genetic experiment or of sophisticated grafting. She momentarily considers that Greg might have been feeding a second Mbwun, but dismisses the idea.
D'Agosta learns that a homeless man caught in the act of killing another man is in custody and has confessed to the killings. Pendergast soon reveals him to be schizophrenic, but both Pendergast and D'Agosta know that the police...
