Summary
Chapter five begins with a description of Micah's morning run. The narrator muses whether or not Micah would ever notice if people disappeared from the earth entirely. As Micah is running, he passes two women walking on the side. He overhears a piece of their conversation, and as a result feels a pang of longing. When Micah returns to his home, he meets Lorna on the front steps. Micah tells Lorna that Brink was at his apartment, and that he found Micah because he thinks Micah is his father.
After they have gone inside to Micah's apartment, Micah explains to Lorna how he found him, and his attempt to explain to Brink that he is not his father. Lorna then tells Micah how about a week ago, Brink showed up back at home unannounced, apparently abandoning his classes at college. Lorna describes how both...
