Summary

The next poem is titled “The Project.” Pete and Reha are supposed to work on a project about heroes. Reha asks Amma for permission to go to Pete's house after school. After talking to Pete's mother on the phone, Amma agrees, but only “Because it is for a school project” (79). Pete's house is different from Reha's house. She takes note of the rugs and furniture and feels that the house is “fancy.” Mrs. Brown provides grilled cheese and cookies and pronounces Reha's name correctly. Reha knows Pete has coached her. She no longer feels awkward by the time they begin work.
