Summary

Part III is titled “City of War” and opens with a quote from Lord Byron stating that “When Rome falls, the world shall fall” (208). Chapter 18 is titled “The Treasures that Prevail.” Alec and Magnus have a romantic interlude when they arrive at their hotel. Magnus considers asking Alec to move in, but feels he should wait a year. Shinyun announces she is going to talk to her contacts in the city. Alec is anxious for her to go so that he and Magnus can be alone. They make out again, but agree that they need to get the cult situation resolved. Alec plans to visit the Rome Institute and asks Magnus to stay at the hotel so he will not be in any danger until Alec returns. Magnus tells him to take the Maserati and “hurry back.”
