Summary and Analysis for Chapters 18-Epilogue Summary
In Chapter 18, Harper goes to talk with his mother about the baby, and she is very happy. At twilight, he takes Hayley for a walk in the garden and proposes to her. She agrees to marry him. They make the announcement to the others and begin to plan a wedding.
That night Hayley is sleeping with Harper, and she feels completely content. She imagines herself walking toward him in a white dress. Suddenly, she is filled with hate. The house is dark, but she will play in the sunlight with her son. She thinks about burning down the stables, but she wants to get her son first. She goes into the carriage house and finds some rope.
