Summary

In Chapter 7, the next day, Brady sees the newspaper article about the search and rescue for Mrs. DiAngelo and Ben. At a school assembly that day, the principal commends Brady for his efforts, and the students cheer for him. However, Brady is bewildered to see that J.T. and Digger do not cheer for him. In Chapter 8, Brady’s mother, Dee Parks, arrives at school and says that they need to leave. They go to her car, and she tells him that Ben died at the hospital. Brady is shocked and deeply saddened. He laments that he did not find Ben sooner. His mother tells him not to blame himself, as he did all that he could. He cries heavily, and his mother drives him home.
