Summary
A day passes before Ida and Sad speak again. Ida tells him about her new friend with red wings, G, whom Sad instantly recognizes. Sad laughs, trying to imagine G in the army, then tells Ida that he enlisted because his dad thought he was getting into mischief. He changes the subject, asking where G keeps his herd. They head over. Meanwhile, G reflects on his conversation with his mother about Sad, who disapproved of their relationship. In the next Wife of Brain section, the speaker narrates from an objective point of view the reunion of Sad and G. Feeling awkward, Ida panics and leaves them to speak alone.
That night, they gather with the herd and observe them as they graze. G tries not to mention “warplay” to Sad, then contemplates the word warplay, thinking how Sad never says war or warfare. Sad...
