Summary

Chapter 16 opens with Iris waking up next to Jamison after being intimate with her. At this point, they had been together for six months, and Iris is adamant that no one finds out. Leaning closer to her, she wonders whether this might be love, "wanting someone with all the senses" (160). She falls back asleep and wakes up with Jamison close to her breast, and Iris's breasts start leaking. Jam is confused, and Iris beings to worry. She realizes how much she feels as though she needs jam, citing feeling "red at the bone -- like there was something inside of her undone and bleeding" (162). She does not define herself as gay or lesbian or queer -- rather, she just loves Jam. She remembers the first time they were together physically. They were high and Iris was amazed when she let herself be kissed...
