Barry Sutton
Barry Sutton is one of the novel's protagonists. In his original life, Barry works as a detective for the NYPD. On this same timeline, Barry was married to a woman named Julia, who eventually divorced him after the tragic death of their 16-year-old daughter Meghan. While living and working in New York, Barry occupies a small apartment by himself, and attempts normalcy while perpetually missing Meghan and Julia.
When False Memory Syndrome sweeps the city, Barry throws himself into an independent investigation of the bizarre psychological phenomenon. His work, however, leads him to Hotel Memory, the organizers of which transport Barry 11 years into his past.
