Part 4: Chapters 1-3 Summary
In chapter 1 of part 4, Bruce awakes from his restless sleep. As Bruce begins his day, making a list of the things he must do that day, he gets a phone call from the Assistant Secretary of State asking him to attend an OPEC meeting in Caracas to help the Middle Eastern countries' delegates. Bruce agrees, but it means he will have to leave Salt Lake City that afternoon. Bruce leaves the hotel and orders flowers for his aunt's funeral. With a few hours to spare, Bruce once more drives around Salt Lake City. Somehow Bruce finds himself outside the building where his mother died more than forty-five years before. In chapter 2 of part 4, Bruce recalls the month after his mother's death in which he lived with his father. Bruce's father, Bo, bought a pool hall in the final months...
