Toronto

Toronto is the primary backdrop of the narrative. This is the Canadian city where the main character Maggie lives and works at the start of the novel. Although her family does not reside in the city, Maggie has lived here with her husband Jon for many years. All of her closest friends also live in Toronto. Therefore, when Maggie realizes that she can no longer afford to live here on her own following her breakup, she is forced to leave her community behind. Doing so ultimately grants her perspective on her life. She moves back to the city at the end of the novel when she finds an apartment with Amy.
