Summary
In Chapter 3, later that same day, Wallace goes to the university’s tennis courts. Wallace and Cole often play tennis matches against each other on those courts. Cole is kinder than most other people in the program, so Wallace has a better rapport with him. Wallace even used to have romantic feelings for Cole, until he found out that Cole had a boyfriend. As Wallace arrives at the tennis courts, he briefly thinks about the racial discrimination he experiences in the town surrounding the university. A group of young men once approached him and asked to buy illegal drugs. Cole arrives at the courts, and he and Wallace begin to play. Cole confides a personal crisis in Wallace.
