Summary

Part Two begins in 2021 and is told from the perspective of Nick, Lily’s son. At the start of Part Two, Nick is a high school senior. Lily and Nick lived together on a small island near Seattle. In Chapter 1, Nick’s best friend Timothy was teaching him how to drive. Nick was jealous of Timothy’s family because, unlike Timothy, Nick had never known his father. Timothy interrogated Nick about his father, suggesting he should ask his mother more about him. Timothy commented on Nick’s appearance, noting that he did not look Chinese at all, despite his mother being Chinese.
