At the time "Rape Fantasies" was first published in 1977, the women's movement had been, for a solid decade, asserting equality for women in many facets of society. Many women entered the work force during the decade, more and more were attending college and postponing marriage and childbearing, and they began to enter traditionally male occupations, such as law and medicine, in greater numbers than before.
