Donner and Seagram bring recording equipment with on their next visit to Koplin. They ask him to begin with when he left Norway. He begins with how he made his way to within two hundred miles of Novaya Zemlya. The trawler that towed his sloop, cut it free and how he traveled the rest of the way on his own. When he found a place to land on the Russian coast, he used the boat as his base station for the next twelve days. He would make day trips from the boat using cross-country skis. On the final day of the mission he was spotted by a Russian patrol and shot.
