Rick Overlooking Horse
Rick Overlooking Horse is the almost entirely Oglala Lakota Indian with one-sixteenth of his blood descending from the Irish. This did not stop him from embracing the former culture completely from a very young age. He had the ability to understand and mull over life’s mysteries at the age of nine. Upon seeing sacrificial wounds for the Sundance Ceremony, he felt a deeper connection to the spirituality of his people. The way in which he chose to deal with his physical and emotional pain in the VA hospital drew completely upon the perspective granted to him by his culture. He withstood hardship and solidified his perspective on life by working through the pain this way. He became wise.
His character provides the example for all the other characters to live up to. Like a spiritual guide, Rick Overlooking Horse is believed to have the solution...
