Summary
The twins enter a race at Thunder Basin, Wyoming, the prize money of which would pay off You Choose What Son’s legal bills (247). They are not taken seriously by the officials and other riders, and were disqualified after completing the race an entire day earlier than the others. The narrator describes how the reservation was poor with few positive prospects for its residents, who were made to feel unproductive. A recruiter came to the reservation for Disneyland France in search of “two real Indian boys for Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show” (252). They auditioned and were hired for the parts. Le-a was unhappy with their decision and blamed You Choose for forcing them to find paying jobs.
