Maja is tried in the largest courtroom in Sweden that is ruled by the chief judge and lay judges.

Quicksand

Quicksand is a metaphor for the situation Maja gets in with Sebastian, thanks to the encouragement of her parents. She gets stuck in the Fagerman problems, from which she cannot extricate herself and finds no one to turn to. When she tries to disengage from the Fagermans' problems, they manipulate her so that she sinks deeper and deeper into the quicksand of their subjugation.
