Summary
In Chapter 36, Maja spends the weekend after the second week of trial alone in her cell. She imagines Amanda's funeral which she missed and recalls that the two of them were confirmed at the church in the same ceremony. The two looked so alike in identical white gowns that Maja's dad said they looked like sisters. Maja believes that Amanda's mother will never forgive her; Maja says she cannot even forgive herself.
Maja is convinced that people believe what they want to believe and they want to believe that they could never do anything like what Maja did, that they have nothing in common with her.
