The United States of America
Much of Quichotte’s storyline takes place during his meandering road trip around the United States. For years, he has worked as a traveling salesman and has not had a fixed residence. He travels by car. Once he begins pursuing his quest to win Salma’s love, he continues to travel in this manner. Instead of driving straight to New York City, where Salma lives, he travels is a meandering way, following possible spiritual signs that he thinks will help lead him to a type of inner enlightenment. The novel only explicitly names a few of Quichotte’s stops along his journey.
