Summary
Brian spends time at the Arena Health Club, a gay bathhouse, where public sex is the norm. This is the first place that Brian ever tries cocaine and “knew immediately that cocaine would be a mainstay in my life. It made me feel invincible. In an instant, I was the person that I always wanted to be” (156). He hangs out with two young men, Tate and Jeremy, and feels pressure to be as sexually experienced as they are.
Brian goes clubbing with his friend Michael and his boyfriend, Phil. Brian is attracted to Phil even while Phil is obsessed with Michael. Brian attempts to come on to Phil by putting his hand on his leg after he and Michael have a fight. Phil rebuffs Brian with disgust. He leaves the club and reconciles with Michael.
