Chapter Four Summary
After his dinner with Mary Crane, Norman storms back to the office in search of a drink. Even though he told Mary that Mother forbade him to drink, he keeps a bottle of whiskey in his desk drawer for just such occasions. He closes all the blinds, turns off the "Open" sign, and takes a long pull from the bottle. He remembers going upstairs to tell Mother that a young woman would be joining him for dinner. Mother exploded screaming, "If you bring her here, I'll kill her! I'll kill the bitch! (Page 47). Rather than fight back, Norman pushed Mother into her bedroom and locked the door.
