Science and Science Fiction
The theme of science and science fiction is a constant presence in the novel through the work of Ryland and the other scientists on the Project Hail Mary team. The author demonstrates that scientific discoveries are accomplished by a team of people working in tandem. When Ryland initially begins working for Stratt analyzing the Astrophage, he remarks, “One guy in a lab? That's not how science works” (58). Indeed, the success of Project Hail Mary requires scientists from all branches of study, from medical science to climatology.
