Summary
In Chapter 27, Yanek was forced on another death march to Dachau camp, just north of Munich. Their path took them through Czechoslovakia, where the villagers in the homes they passed left food out for them and occasionally threw scraps of bread or potatoes to the Jews as they passed while the Nazis yelled at them to stop feeding traitors. The Czechs were no fans of their German overlords, as their country had been one of the first to fall at the start of the war. Yanek did not get any of this food, and as he knew he would soon starve, he elected to try his luck and ask Moonface, the brutal kapo who had evidently been transferred to his new camp and would now come to Dachau with him, for some of the extra bread he had acquired form the Czechs.
