Chapters 3-4 Summary and Analysis
In "My Sister Sara," Sara learns at the age of sixteen that she is to be married to a man more than twice her age. Sara had dreams of studying art and perhaps going to work in a museum. With the news of this impending marriage, Sara's dreams died. Not only this, but Sara would only be one among many wives to her new husband. The marriage was beneficial to Father, however, because the groom was a member of a leading merchant family; therefore, the wedding was to go through no matter what Sara had to say about it. Sara cried all through the wedding preparations, despite the sedative their father ordered the doctor to administer to her.
