Relationships
One of the primary themes running through the novel is relationships. The novel reveals that even the individuals that make up a family have different relationships among the family members. For example, Mia and her father, and Mia and her mother, have a closer relationship than Mia has with her grandmother. Even Mia's father seems to have a troubled relationship with Grandmere.
Friendship is another type of relationship the novel tackles. Mia has very close friends. These are friends she had before she found out that she is a princess. Some of her friends, namely Lilly, have a hard time dealing with the fact that she is a member of a royal family. Eventually, Mia's friends learn to treat her the same that they have always treated her.
