Genovia is the country, or French principality where Mia and her father are the prince and princess. They speak French, so Mia has to learn the language when she finds out that she is part of the royal family. Mia is planning for her visit official visit to Genovia.

Manhattan

Mia grew up and still lives in Manhattan in a loft with mother and stepfather. Mia spent her whole life in Manhattan until she found out that her father is a prince and she is a princess. The city represents Mia's normal life as a teenager because she gets to be herself, attend school, go out with her friends and live more of a normal life when she is in Manhattan.
