Chapter Thirteen and Chapter Fourteen Summary
In Chapter Thirteen the girls return the the academy, discussing their strategy along the way. Miri presents their terms to Olana: they will not longer be hit or locked in the closet, they will be allowed to go home for holidays and to help with trading, and they will only be punished with a missed meal. Olana accepts their terms, impressed at the girls' ability to demonstrate Diplomacy. The soldiers are dismissed so the girls do not feel like prisoners. Katar steps in at the last moment to help, but only out of self-interest. The next morning Miri spots a hawk carved from linder, a gift to her from Peder. She is happy to be his best friend.
