Bushwick
Bushwick is the part of Brooklyn where the Benitez family lives. The Benitez sisters have never known another home and have rarely ever stepped outside of the neighborhood, with Zuri and Janae even counting on one hand the number of times the family has left Brooklyn. Bushwick has undergone a lot of changes recently, with wealthier -- and increasingly white -- families moving in to newly-renovated homes which were formerly run-down. As a result, Bushwick business owners have been responding to the change: Hernando now sells 'organic' produce and charges even the poorer residents higher prices because of this; Bushwick Farm, a farm-to-table restaurant, caters to the kind of 'bougie' clientele that Zuri hates. The gentrification process is slow but steady in Bushwick, and by the end of the novel the Benitez family is forced to move to a different neighborhood as their apartment building is sold to...
