Day 6, 11:42 A.M., 3:12 P.M. and 4:12 P.M., 4:22 P.M. Summary

Jack discovers that Julia has interacted with the swarms, treating them as a psychologist would treat a child. For example, she places two red blocks and a yellow block on the ground to see if the swarm "chooses" the yellow. Jack points out that this testing is teaching as well and that the swarm has evolved dramatically over the course of the past several days, at least partly because of Julia's interaction with it. On Day 5, when Julia came home for an early dinner with Jack and the family, the swarms had killed a rattlesnake. David says that Julia and Ricky are in agreement that the swarms should not be killed and Jack says that's exactly what he's going to do.
